| Today the students of Division 1 and Division 2 got a chance to experience what it is like to vote in a federal election as we took part in Student Vote 2015. We began yesterday by refreshing our knowledge about what a democracy is, why we vote, and the electoral process in Canada. We did this by watching and discussing the short videos to the left, which came from the Student Vote Youtube Channel. Then using the website www.pollenize.org students researched the different political party platforms and thought about which candidates and parties best represented their interests. Students worked very hard at this and it was exciting to see debates spring up around the room as students discussed the election issues. Today, some of the students in Division 2 took on the roles of election officials and invited us into the multipurpose room to cast out vote. We followed all the same steps as adult Canadians will when they cast their vote in the official election on October 19th. It was a great learning experience and students definitely took a great interest in the election process and the campaign platforms. I hope some of our students will get the chance to go to the polling stations with their parents to see the real election in progress! |
